Wayne Embry Youth Basketball Leagues

  

Teams will be organized geographically, when possible.

Camp

Biography:
Wayne Embry is a native of Clark County Ohio who is enshrined in the Professional Basketball Hall of Fame because of a successful career as a player and executive.  He is the first African American to serve as General Manager of one of the Major League Sports.

2nd and 3rd Grade Division
A co-ed instructional which meets once a week for 6 weeks beginning in January. The program is held on Sunday afternoons at area gymnasiums.  

4th Grade Division
A co-ed league where teams will practice once Mon - Fri (coaches choice of slot) and games will be on Saturday.  The league is highly instructional with an emphasis on skill development with games that are instructional in nature. Practices and games will be held on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  The league is held at area gyms.

 

5th and 6th Grade Division
This league is organized with separate divisions for boys and girls. Games will be played on  Saturdays beginning in January, with games and practices held at various locations throughout Springfield and Clark County, with an increased emphasis on skill development through positive competition.

The objective is for participants to dribble, pass and shoot accurately as fast as possible. People will be broken up into three age groups: 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 with boys and girls competing separately. Age is determined as of May 16, 2009.

All participants must have a parent and/or guardian fill out a registration/wavier form obtained from selected civic and youth organizations. Boys and girls, ages 9-14, MUST provide a copy of a valid birth certificate or other proof of identification for age verification. Any participant who competes in more than one Local Competition will be disqualified. The Champion in each age and gender group has the opportunity to advance to the Regional Competition.

Competition Flow 

Opening Lay Up- minimum of 1 or maximum of 3 shot attempts. Participant may only advance after a made shot or after 3 unsuccessful attempts.

Shot from foul line- minimum of 1 or max of 3 attempts.

Speed Dribble- begin by rounding yellow cone to the right and continue weaving through entire set of cones.

Pass & Receive Ball- must have at least 1 foot on passing spot, pass the ball to passing coach and receive ball back from coach.

Speed Dribble- round yellow cone and weave through. 

Final Lay Up- min 1 or max 3 attempts.

Violations will add 2.00 to participants time. 

 

 

 

Sports Champions Basketball Camp     Fee $25  

For Youths ages 8 - 14

A two day camp held at a local school, for young people ages 8 - 14 of all basketball skill levels.  The camp will provide comprehensive instruction into all phases of the game of basketball in a very fun format.
