Witness history  come to life. Take advantage of a rare opportunity for the 21st century public to be a part of an ancient craft or just to observe a piece of our early history being preserved at a barn raising at the Hertzler House in George Rogers Clark Park. On July 7-21 the Timber Framers Guild will come to the Park to present a workshop on Timber Framing. The Guild will complete an actual barn raising July 21.

The original Hertzler Barn was demolished in 1951 leaving just a foundation and roof. The new raising will reconstruct the frame from a Montgomery County Barn, the same size and from the same time period , utilizing the original foundation. The public will be invited and encouraged to attend and some may possibly lend a hand. The barn raising is sponsored by the Clark County Park District and the National Trail Parks and Recreation District. Call 937.882.6000 for additional information.

Attend the raising - July 21, 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., no charge and bring a lawn chair

The timber framing workshop - July 7 - 21, noon to 6:00 p.m. fee is $250 and is limited to 20.
To register for this workshop the call 603.835.2077 or Email: susan@tfguild.org.

Distribution of funds to townships for park improvements

National Trail Parks and Recreation District Board Chairman William Berry distributed nine checks, on Wednesday July 30, to local townships, villages and the City of New Carlisle. The checks were the result of a $1.3 million fund which was established from the District's Capital Fund Campaign to allocate monies for non-NTPRD capital park projects throughout Clark County. The entities submitted grant proposals for their various projects earlier in 2003 and the distributions were approved by the National Trail Parks and Recreation District Board in June.

Representatives from New Carlisle, South Vienna, Enon, South Charleston, Moorefield Township, Pike Township, German Township, Harmony Township, Mad River Township, Madison Township, Bethel Township and Pleasant Township were on hand for the presentations. Springfield and Green Townships were still completing paperwork at the time of the initial distribution.
