Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)

National Trail Parks and Recreation District has been monitoring the coronavirus outbreak with the guidance of the Clark County Combined Health District, including information from the Ohio Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
Health authorities have indicated that the situation is evolving and we should do as much as possible to inform those we serve, the community and our staff of the measures we are taking to prevent the spread of the virus. We will continue to follow the guidelines from the Health District as they become available.
To stop the spread of germs, the following should be practiced:
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
• Stop handshaking – use other methods of greeting.

Below are the steps that National Trail will take regarding our programs and events. This information may change based on further developments or recommendations from the Health District. Our goal is to keep our participants, families, and employees safe and healthy.

Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic and the uncertainty of future social distancing guidelines and limitations for public facilities in Ohio, National Trail Parks and Recreation District will be canceling the 2020 Splash Zone season and all in-person programs, activities and special events through August 31.  Our parks, open spaces and multi-use trails will continue to be open to the public dawn to dusk. Please continue to follow the recommended social distancing and CDC guidelines.

Splash Zone

The health and safety of our patrons and staff is our first priority. The ability to ensure the social distancing in and out of the water and consistently sanitizing all public areas make it difficult to open the facility.  Many of the expenses associated with the operation of an aquatic center are fixed and the budget is dependent on average daily attendance to off-set these costs. Residents that have purchased memberships will have the option to keep their pass for the 2021 season or receive a refund.

Summer Programs and Activities

All of our in-person summer camps, programs and athletic leagues have been canceled. Even as the numbers of people able to gather in a location increases, we will still have to adhere to the 6-foot social distancing guidelines and this is not possible with our camps, programs and athletic leagues. We will be offering a variety of programs that our community may participate in as a family or individually. These programs and events will be advertised on our website and through our social media outlets. Participants that have already registered for summer programs or leagues will be contacted with further information.

Old Fashioned Fireworks

After careful consideration, we will be canceling the Old Fashioned Fireworks for 2020. This event is 100% supported by the community and individual donations, we do not want to create added stress by continuing to solicit donations from our generous local businesses and past sponsors. In addition, with the uncertainty of the future guidelines for public gathering limitations and the concern for the well-being of our community, we do not feel that we can offer this family-friendly event.

Program registrants will automatically be issued a household credit for the cost of the program. Household credit can be used for any future NTPRD activity including youth or adult sports leagues, summer camps or clinics, special events, SZ season passes or shelter rental. We have also closed Bethie’s Sprayground and our Administrative Office Lobby. We will continue to evaluate this ever-changing situation and adjust dates and status of programs as needed. For assistance, please call (937)328-7275 or email us at NationalTrail@SpringfieldOhio.gov. Our office hours are from 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday – Friday. We appreciate your understanding. Updates can be found at NTPRD.org.

We apologize for this inconvenience but the safety of our participants and families is our number one priority. We are thankful for such an amazing and understanding community in times like these. Remember our natural areas and trails are still open for your enjoyment. Please remember to follow social distancing of 6-feet between yourself and other. Thank you and stay safe.
