Spring at New Boston   May 3 and  4  opens at 11am

Held at the George Rogers Clark Heritage Association's Gathering House in George Rogers Clark Park.  Admission is free and there will be speakers and demonstrations on period art, gardening, animals, bee keeping, a history walk, cannon firing, plant sale, and much more. Indian Creek Regulators   TBA

Visit this 1800's style Cowboy Camp.  See how it was in the old Wild West.  No admission charge.  Meet at the parking lot below the dam.

 

 

Old Fashioned 4th       July 4  from 2 PM till 4 PM

Presented by the Friends of the Clark County Park District.  Come join the fun and games like three-legged races, wheelbarrow races, tug of war, egg toss, and watermelon seed spitting contest.  Bring your picnic lunch and a laugh or two.  We will provide the watermelon and parking for free.

 

 

Grandparents/Grandkids Fishing Day       TBA

Bait as well as fishing gear will be provided if necessary for this free event. No fishing licenses are required at Hosterman Lake.

 

 

Living History       August 9  10:00am to 4:00pm

The First Mad River Light Artillery will sponsor a living history day at George Rogers Clark Park on August 9 from 10 am until 4 pm.  The event will commemorate the 228 anniversary of the Revolutionary War Battle of Peckuwe. A brief ceremony will be held at noon and there will be battlefield tours, cannon and musket firings and militia drills throughout the day. The event is free to the public.

 

 

 

Fair at New Boston Labor Day Weekend  (Saturday and Sunday)  August 30 & 31  10am - 6pm

Presented by the George Rogers Clark Heritage Association (GRCHA).  The park is closed for the event.  Join the 1000 costumed participants as they help visitors learn about life in the years between 1790 and 1810.  Admission for adults $8, children (6 to 12) $3, and children under 6 are free.  Parking is free just outside the park.  Friday is Education Day at the Fair for local 4th Graders.  The Hertzler house will be open each afternoon with guided tours.  A fee of $3 is charged for the tour of this historic home. POW WOW    TBA

Conducted by the Ohio Native Ancestral Association, this will be an inter-tribal gathering of Native Americans. Activities will include tribal dancing,  singing, native foods, and vendors. The event will be conducted from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. The "Grand Entry" will be performed each day at 1:00 p.m.

Admission is $3, $2 for Seniors 62 and over and Free for children under age 12.

 

 

 

Fall at New Boston   TBA

Presented by the George Rogers Clark Heritage Association.  Fall preparations for the coming winter that include dyeing, open hearth cooking, candle making and corn grinding will be demonstrated by costumed participants. Trade blankets will offer a variety of goods, and a traveling bottle merchant will set up his store in a tent. Colonial dancing will be a featured activity, if weather permits. Visitors will be invited to join in.  

 

First Mad River Light Artillery will be firing its full sized Revolutionary War cannon at the Fall at New Boston Living History Encampment at George Rogers Clark Park. The colorful Revolutionary War era militia camp will be set up around the log stockade. Come visit the camp to get a close up look at the cannon and displays. Witness militia drills, and see how a militia camp operated. At 1:00 pm on Saturday local historian Bill Smith will give a walking tour of the Revolutionary War battlefield. George Rogers Clark Park is the site of the Battle of Peckuwe, largest Revolutionary War Battle fought west of the Alleghenies. It was also the site of two Shawnee villages, and one of the possible birthplaces of Tecumseh. Simon Kenton and other frontiersmen once walked these grounds.
